Apple Wins Patent Case Against HTC

The United States International Trade Commission has ruled in favour of Apple in a patent dispute with HTC over smartphone technology. The patent in question, '647, relates to a commonly found feature in smartphones that allows you to tap on a phone number or a date in an email, to dial directly or click on the data to bring up more information.
As a result of this decision Apple has won a formal import ban that will prevent US imports of infringing HTC smartphone models. The exclusion order will take effect from April 19,2012.

Initially Apple claimed that HTC was ignoring 10 of its patents, but after the ruling it was actually a win for HTC as it impacted only one patent , rather than the claimed 10.

The analysts believe that the ban won't immediately change the dynamics of U.S. smartphone market. HTC after the ITC ruling announced tht it will simply remove or change the minor offending feature. IF HTC does it until April 2012, no HTC phone will be banned from importation into United States. And indeed, that's what HTC is promisimg to do. here the official statement:
"This decision is a win for HTC and we are gratified that the commission affirmed the judge's determination on the '721 and '983 patents, and reversed its decision on the '263 patent and partially on the '647 patent. We are very pleased with the determination and we respect it. The '647 patent is a small UI experience and HTC will completely remove it from all our phones soon."

“Competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours” said Apple.
